COVID-19 Update: Revised March 10, 2022

As you most likely are aware, health and safety guidance from the state and local health departments related to COVID-19 continues to evolve. As always, we remain committed to keeping our students in school, while providing a safe learning environment for all. We also remain committed to providing staff and families with clear, updated information on the latest guidance as it relates to COVID-19 testing, quarantine and isolation.

Effective immediately, the Lisbon Central School District will use the following protocols when allowing students to return to school if they have symptoms of COVID-19, test positive for COVID-19 or are considered exposed to an individual with COVID-19. These protocols are based on the most recent updates from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the New York State Department of Health and local health departments. Please know that this information is subject to change at any time. If you have specific concerns or questions regarding your child, please contact our School Nurse at (315) 393-4951 x 23151.

One of the biggest changes you can expect is that the New York State Department of Health will no longer conduct contact tracing. This means that individuals potentially exposed to COVID-19 will no longer be contacted by their local department of health. Going forward, we will no longer be collecting information about contacts with the exception of limited circumstances. Parents will be responsible for notifying the school about exposures that occur outside of the school setting. This includes household, carpooling, get-togethers, etc. Please be mindful of sending your child to school after an exposure and ensuring they do not meet the quarantine guidelines.

Additionally, effective March 2, 2022 students, school staff and visitors will no longer be required to wear face coverings or masks at school or on buses.  Mask wearing will be optional. We will continue to support any student or staff member who would like to continue masking by stocking an adequate supply of masks. There will be no tolerance for harassment, bullying, or questioning any individual’s personal decision to continue to wear a mask in our school district.

Per Lisbon Central School District BOE Policy, Approved January 20, 2022:

Recognizing the ever changing nature of CDC and NYSDOH regulations during times of pandemic the Lisbon Central School Board does authorize the Superintendent of Schools to design, initiate and enforce quarantine, isolation, test to stay, and any other programmatic protocols necessary to maintain school operations, ensure student and staff safety, and maximize student access to all academic and extracurricular offerings.

This policy shall act to serve as authorization with regards to all pandemic related regulations that require a specific Board policy.

The Superintendent shall consult with pertinent district level teams, public health departments, and school health officials while making decisions in this capacity.  The Superintendent shall ensure that all protocols and procedures are aligned with current regulations to the extent practicable.

Additional quarantine and isolation information can be found on our local county department of health website, as well as the New York State Department of Health and CDC websites .
