Graduation Requirements

REGENTS EXAMS

Regents Diploma Test Requirements (grade of 65 or higher)

  • English Regents (11th grade)

  • Math Regents (most commonly Integrated Algebra in 9th or 10th grade)

  • Global Studies Regents (10th grade)

  • US History Regents (11th grade)

  • Science Regents (most commonly Living Environment or Earth Science)

  • Second Language School Exam (8th grade) or 1 credit in high school second language

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation Test Requirements (grade of 65 or higher)

 

  • English Regents (11th grade)

  • 3 Math Regents (Integrated Algebra, Geometry, & Algebra 2-Trigonometry)

  • Global Studies Regents (10th grade)

  • US History Regents (11th grade)

  • 2 Science Regents (any 2 of the following: Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, or Physics)

  • Second Language Final Exam following Spanish 3 (or earn 5 credits in occupational education or art in lieu of second language sequence)

* Students acquiring five (5) credits in occupational education or art may be exempted from the 3-unit second language requirement. They must, however, have 1 unit of a second language, which can be earned by passing a local exam at the end of Spanish 8 or one credit of high school foreign language.

Extra Diploma Notations

There are a few different distinctions noted on diplomas at graduation, based primarily on a student’s performance on Regents exams throughout high school.

  • With Honors: A student may earn either a Regents diploma with honors or Regents diploma with Advanced Designation with honors if the Regents exams taken for the diploma average at a 90.0 or higher (no rounding allowed).
  • Mastery in Mathematics: A student will earn this designation if he/she earns an 85 or higher on the 3 math Regents exams.
  • Mastery in Science: A student will earn this designation if he/she earns an 85 or higher on 3 science Regents exams.
